Things to do while you are in Banff

Banff Gondola

  • Your adventure begins with an eight-minute journey to the summit of Sulphur Mountain in a modern, fully enclosed four-passenger gondola cabin.
  • Glide up over the treetops to the crest of a steep-sided Rocky Mountain peak and step out into a jaw-dropping mountaintop experience at an elevation of 2,281 metres (7,486 feet).
  • Stroll along the ridge top boardwalk where the views get better with every step.
  • Warm up in our newly transformed, state-of-the-art summit facility. With new restaurants, interactive interpretive exhibits, a multi-sensory theatre and a breathtaking 360-degree rooftop observation deck, the new Banff Gondola summit heightens every sense.

FREE BANFF GONDOLA SHUTTLE: The free Banff Gondola shuttle picks up from Elk + Avenue Hotel and Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. The return to Downtown shuttles departs from the Banff Gondola parking lot approximately every 20-30 minutes (depending on destination).

  • Choose between the Johnston Canyon icewalk (daytime and evening tours) or the Grotto canyon icewalk!
  • The most popular is the narrow gorge of Johnston Canyon. A network of steel catwalks built into the canyon walls means you can walk right along this cathedral of ice. As you do, you’ll get to wander through a natural cave to gaze down at the flowering waters of the lower falls. Continue onto the awe-inducing upper falls.
  • Grotto Canyon gives you a second icewalk option. Guides will lead you along a frozen creek bed to spots where you can see ancient native pictographs.
